Can we avoid polarization? Perspectives on Echo Chambers and Filter bubbles

An echo chamber is a metaphorical term used to describe a group in which beliefs and opinions are reinforced by repetition (echoes). Opposing beliefs and opinions are heard less often. In such situation, engaged members unknowlgly reinforce their existing views. Echo chambers created personalized conform zones, more trust and less critical of the opinions discussed.  On the other hand, filter bubbles, resulting from filtering of online contents delivered by the search engines and social media based in users information such as – search history, location, click behavior etc. For example, Facebook newsfeeds and google search results are customized based in the information stored in ‘cookies’. internet users tends to become isolated in their own cultural and ideological ‘like bubbles’
