Internal computer hardware
MotherboardClick here to read about the main motherboard components and their functions.
Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) It is a standard expansion card, designed for attaching a video card to a computer system to assist in the acceleration of 3D computer graphics.
Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)It is a local computer bus (communication system that transfers data between components) for attaching several hardware devices.
The Southbridge and NorthbridgeThe southbridge is one of the two chips in the core logic chipset on a personal computer (PC) motherboard, the other being the northbridge. southbridge connects all the modules in the motherboard which does not require very quick data like northbridge components.
Read-only memory (ROM)A ROM chip is a non-volatile storage medium, which means it does not require a constant source of power to retain the information stored on it. ROM is mostly used for firmware updates that provides instruction on how hardware devices should operate. Firmware cannot be changed or deleted by an end-user without using special programs, and remains permanently on ROM whether it's on or off.Read more about what are the differences between RAM and ROM.
